Friends on the Outside was developed and funded by the "Bridging the Gap" documentary talent initiative run by the Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) for new and emerging filmmakers based in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The programme combines professional development, production funding, and international festival distribution to launch emerging careers in documentary filmmaking.
